Orders route through the Alpaca Crypto API for spot pairs such as BTC/USD and ETH/USD, and the algorithms keep running nights and weekends.
Entries buy coins outright. When a coin's own verdict turns bearish, Virgil skips the long instead of opening a short.
Every algorithm has its own configurable entry (bull) and exit (bear) conditions, and a coin is checked against them before a strategy opens.
Entry conditions can use composite signals such as EMA full stack, regime trend guard, pullback stochastic guard, mean-reversion stochastic guard and Bollinger width.
When a strategy closes in profit quickly, Virgil can queue a follow-up entry on the same coin, which first passes the original algorithm's entry checks.
The Redemption algorithm scans open Alpaca positions that are down past your configured loss percentage and evaluates them for a recovery entry.
Optionally swap in the entry conditions of today's best-performing algorithm, with a time decay so a stale leader stops being copied.
Set a date and time for a strategy to buy, and Virgil places the order when the schedule comes due and logs the result.
Each algorithm run records which coins qualified, which were rejected, the conditions used and each coin's market-lean verdict.
When an algorithm's conditions include an LLM check, the coin's technicals, recent real-time prices and news headlines go to a language model for an enter or skip verdict.
LLM verdicts can come from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek or Perplexity, set per account.
Each algorithm sends its own analysis instructions, so a Pullback entry is judged differently from a Breakout entry.
Once a week, an LLM analyses each algorithm's entries and exits over the period and writes up what worked and what did not.
A composite score built from major-coin trends, universe breadth, index breadth and technical consensus classifies the crypto market as bullish, bearish or neutral.
Each coin gets its own lean verdict, and algorithms can be set to enter only coins whose verdict is LONG.
Every 15 minutes Virgil projects open, high, low and close prices plus support and resistance zones from ATR, volume and recent price action.
Detects hammer and bullish candlestick patterns, MACD and stochastic crossovers, pivot levels and price near support or resistance.
Indicators come from TradingView, Alpha Vantage, Financial Modeling Prep and Alpaca crypto bars, with daily data refreshed hourly and intraday data every 10 minutes.
Market news is refreshed twice a day, and recent headlines for a coin are included whenever an LLM evaluates it.
Once a strategy's peak profit clears a threshold, Virgil sells with a market order when profit starts trending down from that peak.
The Virgil Trail percent can widen from your default to 3–7% depending on how far the coin's volume runs above its average.
Strategies sell when they reach their configured profit target percentage.
Above the take-profit amount, Virgil holds while profit is still rising and sells once it starts to pull back.
After a five-minute grace period, a strategy that hits its loss target percentage is closed with a market order.
Set a dollar loss limit per strategy, and Virgil exits once it is reached.
A strategy that dipped past the salvage loss level is sold when it recovers into your configured salvage range, cutting the loss.
Give a strategy a hard deadline: when time is up, any resting exit is cancelled and replaced with a market sell.
Optionally place the exit as soon as the entry fills, for strategies that should only hold briefly.
Schedule a strategy to sell at a set date and time, for the full quantity or part of it.
Strategy entry prices can sync to the Alpaca position average so profit and loss are measured against what you actually paid.
Each algorithm has its own maximum spend per strategy, and a run is skipped when buying power does not cover it.
With dynamic max spend on, an algorithm's budget scales with its recent profit-and-loss rate, from a tenth of the default up to 1.7 times it.
Optionally halve algorithm spend whenever the crypto market lean is not bullish.
A default maximum loss is attached to every strategy an algorithm opens.
Algorithms only run for accounts with a validated Alpaca key and available buying power.
Strategies stuck near 0% for longer than your configured window are sold to free up capital.
Strategies sitting in profit but short of their goal for too long can be sold within your configured bounds.
Winning strategies older than your set duration and above a minimum dollar gain can be sold automatically.
